PROCESSI(EARTH)
Eastern. Tonight in Corigliano Calabro, a small village in the south of Italy, a statute called « Madonna dei sette dolori » = « The Madonna of the seven pains » will be carried through the streets, as part of 3 days of Easter celebrations. The festivities began at 3am this morning with a first procession of the Christ, embodied by a different person each year, whose identity must be kept secret. The Madonna dei sette dolori statue has 7 stab wounds to her heart representing the seven deadly sins. Passionate debates and a tense draw to decide who has the honour of carrying this statue ironically reveal much about social hierarchies and power dynamics in the village.
